I’m Jenn – a Birth and Postpartum Doula trained through DONA International and a Certified Lactation Educator and Counselor (UCSD).
As a birth doula, I offer continuous emotional support, physical comfort during labor as well as assistance in obtaining information before, during and after childbirth. I will stand side by side with you throughout labor and delivery, honor your birth as a key experience in your life, help you get answers to your questions, respect and support your choices, and help you achieve your goals and plans regarding your birth experience.
Once baby arrives, everyone’s focus is on the new baby; however, new parents need love, care and support too. As a postpartum doula, I offer support to the new parents – to help them rest, heal and recover from the birthing process as they care for and bond with their child. I help encourage and support parents as they step into their new roles and help build confidence so they know they can navigate their roles and believe they are the best parents for this new little one.
I came into this line of work after spending many years providing childcare. I successfully raised three children of my own – ages 18, 22 and 23. For a few years, I also raised my two nieces and two nephews and ran a daycare facility for infants and toddlers out of my home. Most recently, prior to becoming a postpartum doula, I was a full time nanny.
While this is a departure from the child care work I used to do, I am still drawn to the nurturing and caring for others this work requires. I know this is the work I am supposed to do in life. It is a great honor for me to be able to support parents during this time of great transition and a privilege to watch them grow, learn and embrace their new lives.
